The Ear centre has started to run community outreach ear care work. We have trained several primary ear care practitioners. We have been assisted in curriculum development and creating training materials by UK based specialists, including a link with Warwick University. Training has comprised tutorials, private study, observational and practical experience, with formal assessments. Primary ear care staff have experience with out-patient examination and diagnosis, simple treatments, counselling, ear health education, basic hearing testing, hearing aid fitting and aid repair. They have started to run short outreach visits in the local region. It is anticipated that these will increase in frequency as the programme develops and extends to further areas.
The aim is to offer simple diagnosis, screening, treatment and referral, as well as increasing awareness and offering teaching about ear and hearing care.
