Vaccinations for Nepal
Many are possible for travel to Nepal and India, and it is a matter of balancing potential benefits and risks.
We recommend the following website for information regarding vaccinations. www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk
Malaria prophylaxis in most areas is thought to be unnecessary, although there is a slight risk in the Terai regions on the Indian border. Most regular volunteers do not take it but it is wise to avoid sitting outside and to use repellents at dawn and dusk when the mosquitoes are about!
In the monsoon period (June till September) Japanese encephalitis may be a risk in the Terai region. Brief visits, such as a flight via Nepalganj outside this season do not require this.
We do not recommend the rabies vaccine routinely but would advise people to avoid patting animals that may bite. Jogging sometimes seems to make dogs chase and very occasionally bite.
