Ear Aid Nepal supports surgery in the Ear Centre for those who would be otherwise unable to fund their own operations, hearing aids or other forms of treatment. We are supported in this by our colleagues at INF Social Services Department who screen patients to determine levels of financial hardship and the degree of support required. We believe it is important that patients contribute to the cost of their own care when they are able, and grants are rarely for the full cost of treatment.

In the months March-June 2026, Ear Aid Nepal supported 12 operations, providing 35% of the cost of the total. These operations included 8 modified radical mastoidectomies and two hearing procedures (stapedotomy and ossiculoplasty). We also contributed 90% of the cost of hearing aids to two individuals and provided other therapies or investigations to a number of other individuals who were unable to support the cost of their own treament. The total expenditure of the Poor Fund during this period was 423,000 Nepali Rupees (£2,090). We are very grateful to our supporters who make this regular support possible.

Our colleagues in the Social Services Department share the personal stories of some of the individuals we are able to support (with the patients’ consent), and we like to share these stories on the website:

Binita Nepali, from Syangja District, lives with her family of six and is a Grade 11 student. For the past seven to eight years, she has struggled with persistent ear problems. Due to financial constraints, her condition remained untreated for a long time, eventually forcing her to discontinue her education. 

After hearing about Green Pastures Hospital’s (GPH) Ear Centre and its Medical Charity Facility for underprivileged patients through a relative, Binita and her family came to the hospital with hope. Upon examination, doctors promptly decided to operate on her left ear. An assessment by the Social Services Department confirmed that Binita was eligible for 100% financial support. 

Following the successful surgery on her left ear, Binita underwent a second procedure on her right ear, once again fully supported by the GPH Medical Charity Fund. However, despite these interventions, she continued to experience persistent ear discharge, requiring further medical attention. 

As a result, Binita recently returned to GPH for her third surgery. The medical team carefully reassessed her condition and performed the procedure to address the ongoing infection and improve her ear health. She is currently recovering well under close follow-up and care. 

Before coming to GPH, Binita felt hopeless. Her hearing impairment had made her vulnerable to humiliation among her peers, leading her to withdraw socially. She stopped attending school, isolated herself, and endured many sleepless nights filled with distress. 

GPH has been a turning point in Binita’s life. In addition to medical treatment, she has received counseling support from the Social Services Department, helping her regain confidence and emotional strength. Tele-counseling provided to her mother has also been particularly impactful in supporting the family through this journey. 

Today, Binita is hopeful about her recovery and determined to continue her education. She and her mother have expressed deep gratitude to GPH for the comprehensive care and support that has given her a renewed sense of possibility for the future.
