Ear Aid working with INF to heal the whole person

News item 12:2025 EAN

Here is an example of how Ear Aid Nepal works with our parent charity International Nepal Fellowship to treat the whole person. Ganga Sarkhi received support and treatment to manage both her leprosy and her chronic ear disease.

Ganga Sarki is a 35-year-old woman from Jumla, Karnali Province. She lives with her family of six, who depend on farming for their livelihood.

In 2021, Ganga started having problems moving the fingers of her right hand. At that time, she had just given birth to twins, after her first child, and was very busy taking care of her children. She ignored the problem.

In 2023, she attended a free health camp in her village, where doctors suspected she might have leprosy. She was referred to INF Surkhet Hospital, where the disease was confirmed. Ganga started Multi-Drug Therapy, but because treatment was delayed, her hand developed a disability known as claw hand. For this reason, she was later referred to Green Pastures Hospital (GPH) in 2025 for reconstructive surgery.

The Sarki family faced a lot of social discrimination because of leprosy. Neighbors excluded them from community events such as weddings and celebrations.

At GPH, Ganga received emotional support, several sessions of counseling, occupational therapy, and then reconstructive surgery on her hand. Doctors also found that she had ear problems with frequent discharge and hearing loss. Through the hospital’s Ear Charity, she received surgery for her hearing as well.

Today, Ganga is stronger and more confident. With tears in her eyes, she shared her heartfelt gratitude to GPH for giving her new hope.
